defect 는 '결함'이라는 뜻으로 더 자주 쓰이는 단어이지만, 동사로서 '자신이 속한 국가나 집단을 떠나다'라는 뜻도 있습니다. 그래서 여기에 사람을 뜻하는 접미사 -or 이 붙어 defector 가 되면 자신의 국가를 떠난 사람, 또는 자신이 속한 정당을 떠난 사람이 됩니다.

The unification ministry claims these two groups have risked the safety and lives of South Koreans living near the border by sending leaflets over the DMZ and floating plastic bottles containing rice and bibles to the North by sea.
The two groups are called Kuensaem and Fighters for a Free North Korea, but the latter did not attend today's hearing.
If their permits are revoked, then it'll be hard to get donations because they won't be tax deductible.
