"After much deliberation, the Acting President has decided that it would be best for the nation's stability to not extend the special investigation and for the prosecution to take over."
The special prosecutors called the decision "regrettable."
Disappointed though they may be, the independent counsel team vowed to continue to do their best in the time they have, saying the investigation has been carried out according to the law and principles.
The results of the probe are expected to be made public by the end of the week.
