The government has confirmed a case of foot-and-mouth disease at a dairy farm in Chungcheongbuk-do Province.
Nearly 200 cows tested positive and were culled immediately and all milk produced there after the outbreak has been disposed of.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs said Monday that 195 cows at a farm in Chungcheongbuk-do Province, located southeast of Seoul, tested positive for foot-and-mouth disease.
Following the outbreak of the highly contagious disease, the government issued a ban on the movement of livestock at all dairy farms nationwide to prevent the further spread of the virus.
While the government admitted there's a high probability that milk produced at this farm has already been distributed to the market, it said consumers need not worry because the animal disease does not affect humans.
It added that the sterilization process also makes the milk safe to consume.
The quarantine authorities immediately culled all the infected cows.
The government said animals at nearby farms will be vaccinated as well, because it fears that vaccinations have not been properly carried out in some places, despite the fact that they were made mandatory in the aftermath of the nation's worst outbreak of foot-and-mouth in 2010 that led to the slaughtering of more than 3.4 million cows and pigs.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs said Monday that 195 cows at a farm in Chungcheongbuk-do Province, located southeast of Seoul, tested positive for foot-and-mouth disease.

농림축산식품부는 월요일에 서울 남동부에 위치한 충청북도의 한 농장에서 195마리의 젖소가 구제역 양성 판정을 받았다고 밝혔습니다.

 

tested positive : (진단검사에서) 양성판정을 받다. (음성 판정을 받다는 tested negative) 

 

Following the outbreak of the highly contagious disease, the government issued a ban on the movement of livestock at all dairy farms nationwide to prevent the further spread of the virus.

전염성이 강한 이 질병의 발생하자 정부는 바이러스의 확산을 막기 위해 전국적으로 모든 낙농가의 가축들의 이동 금지를 발표하였습니다.

정부는 이 농장에서 생산된 우유가 이미 시장에 유통되었을 확률이 높다는 것을 인정하였으나, 이 동물 질병은 인간에게 영향을 미치지 않기 때문에 걱정할 필요가 없다고 말했습니다.

 

It added that the sterilization process also makes the milk safe to consume.

또한 멸균 과정이 우유를 안전하게 섭취할 수 있게 해준다고 덧붙였습니다.

The government said animals at nearby farms will be vaccinated as well, because it fears that vaccinations have not been properly carried out in some places, despite the fact that they were made mandatory in the aftermath of the nation's worst outbreak of foot-and-mouth in 2010 that led to the slaughtering of more than 3.4 million cows and pigs.

정부는 또한 2010년 340만 마리 이상의 소와 돼지가 살처분 당하게 된 우리 나라 최악의 구제역 발생의 여파로 예방접종이 의무화되었음에도 불구하고, 일부 지역에서 예방접종이 적절히 시행되지 않았을 지도 모른다는 우려 때문에 인근 농가의 동물들을 예방접종할 것이라고 말했습니다.
