outstanding 은 '뛰어난, 두드러진' 이라는 뜻으로 우리에게 익숙한 단어입니다. 그렇지만, 돈과 관련되어서 쓰일 때는 '지불하지 못한, 갚지 못한' 이라는 뜻으로 쓰인다는 것도 알고 계셨나요? 금융, 경제 관련 뉴스에서는 심심찮게 볼 수 있는 뜻이랍니다. outstand loans to households 라면 가계대출 중에서 아직 갚지 않은 돈이니까 '가계대출 잔액' 이라고 볼 수 있지요. 참고로 뉴스의 말미에 나오는 unsecured personal loans 의 경우에도 unsecured 가 '안전이 보장되지 않은' 이 아니라 '무담보 대출' 라는 뜻으로 쓰였답니다. 돈을 빌려주는데 담보가 없으니까 안전 보장이 안되는 거지요.

The BOK said household loans rose in January by 100 billion won, or about 87 million dollars, just a fraction of the 3.4 trillion added a month earlier.
Analysts say one reason for the sharp decline is the seasonal factor -- it's the low season for buying and selling homes.
But also contributing were higher interest rates for mortgage loans -- they rose by about a tenth of a percent from the month before to 3.13 percent.
In January, mortgage loans to households rose by 800-billion won, but that was offset by a decrease in unsecured personal loans of 700-billion.
